What phones support GrapheneOS?
GrapheneOS officially supports a limited range of Google Pixel devices. These phones provide the hardware security architecture required for the operating system, including verified boot, hardware-backed encryption, and secure firmware updates. Supported models currently include the Pixel 10, Pixel 9, Pixel 8, Pixel 7 and Pixel 6 series, plus the Pixel Fold and Pixel Tablet. Pixel 5 and older are end-of-life and no longer supported.
Can GrapheneOS run on Samsung?
No. GrapheneOS cannot run on Samsung phones or most other Android devices. The project intentionally limits support to Pixel devices because they provide strong secure boot guarantees, open firmware policies, and hardware security features required for GrapheneOS to function properly.
Does GrapheneOS work on Pixel 5?
No. The Pixel 5 reached end-of-life and is no longer supported by GrapheneOS, along with the Pixel 5a, Pixel 4a and all earlier models. The oldest currently supported devices are the Pixel 6 series, though Pixel 6 and 6 Pro security support ends in October 2026.
Which Pixel phone is best for GrapheneOS?
The newest Pixel models, such as the Pixel 10 or Pixel 9 series, are generally considered the best options for GrapheneOS. Pixel 8 and newer devices receive 7 years of updates from launch, so they offer the longest remaining security update support, the latest hardware protections, and improved performance for long-term use.
Is GrapheneOS more secure than Android?
GrapheneOS is widely considered more secure than standard Android because it adds additional hardening layers, exploit mitigations, and privacy protections on top of the Android Open Source Project. It also removes unnecessary services and reduces potential attack surfaces while maintaining strong hardware security features available on Pixel devices.
Does GrapheneOS work with all apps?
Most apps work normally. GrapheneOS runs Google Play Services in a sandbox rather than granting it system-level access, so the majority of Play Store apps function as expected. Some apps that depend on deep Google integration or strict device attestation may not work.
Do the camera, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth work on GrapheneOS?
Yes. Core hardware features work normally. What you lose are Google-exclusive software features layered on top of stock Pixel software, not the hardware itself.
Can I install GrapheneOS on a carrier-locked Pixel?
No. Carrier-locked Pixels, particularly Verizon models, have permanently locked bootloaders and cannot run GrapheneOS. Buy an unlocked device.
